I sit and think about this past year and I honestly can’t believe how much you have changed our world Benjamin.
I feel a familiar feeling of sadness because I never want you to grow up, even more so with you actually because you are and will forever be my baby.
I haven’t spent this year willing you to do more, wanting you to learn more or worrying about you not doing things according to the books like I did with your brother, I haven’t obsessed over food, and sat up night after night watching you, instead I have simply enjoyed you, every part of you growing before my eyes. I have been more relaxed around you, and you have made it easier for me to be relaxed because you are the perfect child Benny and I think we have all marvelled at what a wonderful little human you are becoming.
You will always be my baby, but you are well and truly out of the baby phase now, and headed full force into the walking around wrecking the place phase!
You just couldn’t wait to get on your feet you are so determined and you certainly don’t follow the rules!
It is already clear to us that you will find your own path in this life son, and your daddy and I will be with you always to help and support you, but just like I did with your brother, I have written some words of advice to carry throughout your life.
1. Bring the joy. Benjamin you are the joy in our life! you are so happy all of the time and you light up any room! please never lose that, it is infectious and beautiful, just like you.
2. Be kind always, know that I will forever be proud of you if you carry kindness in your heart. Be kind to others and they will be kind in return.
3. Reach for the stars. You have the potential to be anything that you want to be in this world son, we will encourage you in whatever path you choose to take and we will always be proud. But remember to work hard for your dreams, nothing worth having comes easy in this world.
4. Always tell the truth no matter how bad you think it is, it’s worse to tell lies be true to yourself.
5. Don’t be afraid to show your emotions, you have a big heart Ben, don’t be afraid to let others see it. Showing your emotions is a sign of strength not weakness, never forget that.
6. Be sure that people come before things. Make time for the people that matter to you, family and friends are most important in life, spend your time wisely.
7. Learn who your true friends are and hold on to them, they will bring out the best in you.
8. Never be concerned with what other people think of you, you are unique and wonderful and you can’t please everyone so just do you.
9. Dont cheat. On anything, or anyone. Respect yourself enough to honor your commitments. Whatever they may be.
10. Know my love. May you always know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I love you for exactly who you are, and exactly who you will become. Nothing and no one will ever change that. You are my pride, my joy, the reason I smile, my very reason for being.
I feel like I’ve known you forever it’s hard to believe you have only been with us for a year. You have enriched our family and truly made an imprint on our hearts little man, I could never imagine our life without you and your infectious smile. I loved you the minute I laid eyes on you and will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
Thank you for being you, and for changing our world for the better. You have taught me so many things but mostly you have taught me to slow down and appreciate every day with you. I look forward to our future together, forever my baby.
